About

Rainer Floeter

Staff Product Manager · Philadelphia, PA

I'm a product leader who has spent the last several years building consumer-facing sports betting products at Penn Entertainment. I currently lead the Discovery, Search, and Homepage pillars across theScore BET — shaping how millions of users find and place bets through personalized content and predictive data models.

Before getting into tech full-time, I came up through finance — which means I think about product decisions in terms of risk, expected value, and measurable outcomes. That background shapes how I work: hypothesis-driven, experiment-first, and deeply skeptical of feature work that can't be traced back to a user or business outcome.

I care about regulated, data-heavy consumer products. Sports betting sits at the intersection of live data, real money, and user trust — and that intersection is where I do my best work.

Career

I started at J.P. Morgan Chase on the Stock Borrow Loan desk in New York, eventually leading a team through an office migration from Brooklyn to Newark and managing offshore operations in Mumbai. Unglamorous infrastructure work — but it taught me operational discipline and what it actually means to own a process end-to-end.

From there I moved to J.P. Morgan Asset Management as an Associate Product Manager and Business Analyst, building internal performance and reporting tools for Core Operations teams globally. This is where I started writing real product specs and working directly with engineering — translating business needs into technical requirements using SQL and Java.

While at J.P. Morgan I completed the UPenn full-stack web development bootcamp and made the decision to move into consumer product management. That led me to T-Mobile MONEY, where I managed the mobile-first banking experience across agile sprints, owning everything from customer communication strategy to QA and compliance delivery.

In April 2021 I joined Penn Entertainment as Lead Product Manager for Sportsbook. I've shipped across three brand identities since then: Barstool Sportsbook, ESPN BET, and theScore BET. Along the way I've owned Search & Discovery, Homepage, and live streaming integration — helping build a product that handles hundreds of millions in annual wager volume.

Outside of work

I swam competitively for four years at Albright College — four-time Middle Atlantic Conference Champion, record holder, and senior captain, with three All-Conference Academic & Athletic honors. Swimming at that level teaches you things about consistency and recovery that carry over into how I work: there's no shortcut to putting in the laps.

These days I keep coming back to Marcus Aurelius — Meditations is the kind of book that reads differently depending on what you're carrying. I follow the Flyers and Eagles too closely for my own good. And if I'm not building products, I'm out running the trails of Wissahickon Valley Park.
